It has officially been 1 year of Re:Sample!
Over the course of this past year, since July 14th of 2025, we, with the support of the community, have:
- Created this space to promote, share, and build a community foundation for Otomad and YTPMV
- Held 5 Video Jam events, with the 6th currently in progress, in total consisting of over 250 submissions from all of you!
- Written and translated over a dozen articles by and for the community
- Began two new initiatives, Re:cords, a series that interviews people from the community and their experiences with Otomad and YTPMV, and Re:play, a newsletter article + video published every other week to share various events and updates from within the community
- Announced and launched otoDB, a community database, forum, and wiki for Otomad and YTPMV
- …and plans for more to come!
The most important achievement in all of this though, is none of it would have been possible without you, the Otomad and YTPMV community.
To mark this occasion, several of our team members wanted to share their own thoughts and reflections on this past first year.

I’ve been into Otomads/YTPMV for over half my life at this point, and it’s a passion that only keeps growing. As a young fan I was very lost around these spaces, and it took many years to find likeminded people, partially thanks to my activities as Rlcemaster3 at the time… I’m glad we have managed to start a community for fans of these videos, where people can connect and discuss this hobby and what it means to them with others. I’d like to thank all of you who have been following and participating in our projects the past year, and I hope you will enjoy everything we still have planned. I want to keep this scene going forever.

Otomads have consistently found a way to accompany me throughout my life, being not only a hobby, but the fuel that motivated me to learn a lot of new skills.
There is also something very special about the source/author/BGM trifecta, These videos “connect” in a way (like, same BGM but different sources, same source but different authors…). They create links that you can jump through, a thread of new experiences that you’re never quite done unraveling. I’m grateful for the sources I learned about, the songs that are now part of my playlist, and the friends I’ve met. And I hope that with Re:Sample, more people can discover, and jump into the medium at their own pace.
YTPMVs and Otomads are life-changing, not in a grand, poetic way, but simply by creating small connections at every occasion.

Re:Sample was conceived in a desperate call for community. We needed a place to talk about who we are and what we do with sincerity, to grow, connect, and celebrate in real ways. Otomad/YTPMV means something to each and every one of us in a concrete way beyond mere shibboleth for obscure meme remixes. Re:Sample is an affirmation that it is not something to be ashamed of.
Those who, at each one of the important crossroads of life, chose Otomad/YTPMV despite the apparent opportunity cost, deserve our applause. Choosing to engage means finding purpose in something that is likely mere noisome incoherence for the unfamiliar, an emboldening statement within itself.
I’m thrilled by the little that has been achieved within the first year thanks to everyone involved with Re:Sample. And I hope that you stay around for the future initiatives to come.

Ever since discovering this medium, it has never left me. If my interest in it ever wanes, something re-ignites it. I can’t quite pinpoint what the cause of this subconscious attachment is, but there is no doubt that, of all my collective interests over the years, nothing comes close the impact it has had, the friendships I have made, and joy the works and its people has brought me. Perhaps this is what has kept me around here after all this time.
For a community like the one of YTPMV and Otomad, for as much as its given to me in my life, I feel it is not only appropriate, but a necessity for me to contribute back to it, to help it grow, to help it flourish, and to keep alive what has meant so much to me.
I’m very happy to be assisting with these efforts among the community and the folks here involved with Re:Sample, and am incredibly excited to eventually share with everyone more of my vision on how to give back to you all. Thank you, everyone!
