イワシがつちからはえてくるんだ (Shifuo)

Shifuo is to me, one of the best Madoka Otomad creators currently, and this one in particular is probably my favorite of theirs, simply because of how catchy and easily digestible it is, compared to a lot of the more flashy works they have created. I keep coming back to this one a lot, as I really think Madoka’s vocals really fit the song, and I love how they tune her vocals to sound whispery yet give an almost natural feel, almost like a fine tuned voice bank with a limited amount of samples (which I assume is the case, anyways). Madoka’s vocals don’t sound too choppy, and I like the style switches throughout the video, while retaining a lot of YTPMV elements too, which can be seen throughout their work as well. Their most recent video is even more polished, so I highly recommend checking that out too.

㋮スオTV集合体 (出目金)

It’s kind of hard to explain why I keep listening to this video other than I just find the instrumental really catchy, and I like the energy that’s held throughout the video. I like the loud percussion in the background, which I’m pretty sure is him slamming his camera on his iPhone, but it’s drowned out just enough that I’m not even sure, but it definitely starts out with his scream. I find the sentence mixing kind of addicting, and the thing about Masuo sources is that his voice is so loud sometimes that it gives off a high energy feel, and the clips people use make me crack a smile with how goofy they are, yet this one sounds super punchy so I’m just jamming out instead of laughing. Looking back at their oldest Masuo MAD compared to this one, it’s clearly so much more polished now than ever before, and the visuals are super solid.

CCO WIREPULLER (bobywea)

This one’s probably at a hall of fame level by now, but I still really love this one, not only because I believe it started the White Wirepuller fad, but I think it’s still probably the best MAD out of that short window of White Wirepuller MADs. It’s one of my favorite uses of Rurouni Kenshin sources and the sheer amount of clips used makes it feel really epic, on top of just sounding really good. I really like the visuals that start around 0:33, as the energy keeps rising while the soramimi lyrics are transitioning around the screen, and I just find it really addictive and creative, and I’m not too sure if anyone else really tried to replicate it. This MAD turns an unserious source into something so epic and gargantuan that it almost opened my eyes to what’s possible back then.

狂祖信仰 (わたしです)

I was listening to Watashidesu’s Myself 2 medley a lot and it got me thinking I should include one of those MADs in here, since they’ve been on my mind lately and this one stood out to me because I’m a sucker for the sources that are used here. I really like when the BGM is just completely replaced by samples that are related to the source, if that wasn’t already obvious, but this one in particular is cool because you can still hear the chiptune in the background, so it sounds like a good marrying of the two sources. And to add on to that, I think it’s really cool that they tried to replicate chiptune using Donald sources, which is really neat and the execution is very good. The visuals on their own are also exceptionally well done. I really like when they expand on the original video’s visuals while retaining the same vibe and being super flashy.

シヌ・ヴ・プレジデスノ (tokachi)

This is one of my favorite Death Note MADs and I keep coming back to it a lot. I love the custom art used for the visuals and I like MADs that have a weird dichotomy between its song choice and source material, which to be fair Death Note mads usually have that, but this one is really well executed. Some of the small gags littered throughout the video are funny, the editing itself is really funny, and just the premise of Light yelling the lyrics of S’ll Vous President is really funny. I also feel more comfortable about sharing this one to a larger group of people who may not know MADs that well, so that’s a bonus.
